DTE Energy providing more details on a proposed natural Gas Power Plant in East China Township which would replace the coal fired St. Clair Power Plant. Gerry Anderson, President and CEO of DTE Energy, tells WPHM yesterday morning says a fire that broke out at the St. Clair Plant in 2016 demonstrated the need for new generating capacity. The new gas plant is currently awaiting approval from the Michigan Public Service C omission. Anderson tells WPHM it would be the first base-load power plant added in Michigan in over 30 years. Anderson also commented on a ballot proposal that Michigan Voters may be facing in November of this year. The proposal calls for 30% renewable energy in Michigan by 2030. DTE says they have already committed to increased renewable energy and decreased carbon emissions and believes a state mandate is not necessary.
