Ansel Elgort and his girlfriend, Violetta Komyshan, has a insta-perfect relationship that is inspirational to young people across the world. It seems to incredible how supportive they are of each other. Has it always been this great or did the hurdle of Hollywood change them? Let’s go back to their beginnings.
Their love story begins years ago at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City. They both enrolled their freshman year and ended up, ” in the same lunch period or something,” Violetta recalled in a Cosmopolitan interview. She continued to say, ” I didn’t even know he went to my school – I just thought he was really attractive. I looked at him and told my friend, ‘Oh my God, that guy’s so hot,’ and she’s like, ‘Oh, that’s Ansel, he goes to LaGuardia.'” Little did she know that that moment was the beginning of a love tale.
And in old school, gentleman-fashion, Ansel waited outside of school for Violetta the next day. They didn’t have a whirlwind romance that began at first sight with a long date to follow. Their journey began with friendship first. “We exchanged numbers and became friends, and then we started dating when I was at the end of sophomore year,” says Violetta.
While they made it through LaGuardia together, shortly after Violetta’s senior year, they came to the difficult to decision to break-up. In August of 2014, Ansel was in the midst of filming two major box office hits and his career really began to soar. A private source told US Weekly, “They tried to navigate his commitments, but between filming and press for the movies [it got difficult.]” However, Hollywood didn’t change Ansel.
While his status grew with the release of The Fault in our Stars and the Divergent series, Ansel had the same priorities as he did before. Ansel explained what this meant in an interview with GQ Magazine, “What’s changed is: ‘Oh, you can go to this restaurant,’ or ‘You can go to this nightclub,’ but I’m not really interested in that.” He continued by saying he didn’t care that suddenly random girls were interested in him now that he had credit, “That’s not really that interesting to me.”
Recounting the months he was single, Ansel reflects back and said in an interview with Details that he was doing “OK,” but said, “I knew something was missing, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s love.”
Their break-up ended in 2015 and the couple was finally back together and stronger than ever.
Their chemistry only grows stronger as they face the Hollywood starlight together. Of course they have critics, but what power couple doesn’t? And Ansel welcomes those critics. “I don’t walk around calling attention to myself. It’s important to be able to blend in; otherwise you turn into a Hollywood douche bag. I’m sure plenty of people think I am one, too.”
Ansel wasn’t the only one with a career taking off. Even today, Violetta is mesmerizing audiences with her dancing, making it difficult for Ansel to “keep up with her” in fitness, he quipped. (He appears to be doing just fine in that department to fans!) “She’s genuine, sweet, caring, hard working, talented. She shines bright and always puts a smile on my face. I don’t wanna imagine life without her,” Ansel shared on Instagram for her 22nd birthday.
Violetta is credited with being a huge reason for him to be able to keep going and constantly move forward with a positive attitude. She is always excited to support Ansel and his acting endeavors, likewise, Ansel is just as eager is dance with Violetta like no one is watching them. There is no fault in their stars because this couple is making their own light.
