Michigan’s Genavieve Linkowksi Gets Golden Ticket on ‘American Idol’

Genavieve Linkowksi, 19, from Goodrich, MI has been singing her way through life since she was kid and is now headed to Hollywood with a golden ticket.

She’s been through her share of heartache trying to aid in caring for her family of 10 brothers and sisters while her mom nearly died from heart failure. Linkowski worked harder than most kids her age did in order to be strong for her family. Music for her, was always a passion and an escape. When she was 14 she tested out her raw vocals for the first time. “I saw the movie Frozen and fell in love, like I’m sure everyone else did, with the song ‘Let it Go,” Linkowski said in an interview with WBTI. She went home and cued the karaoke version of the song up. “I really surprised myself, I had never sang in that way before with my voice.”

That was only the beginning. A year ago she began grabbing the attention of Michigan natives when she went to a Flint thrift shop and jammed out on the second-hand piano inside the store. She attracted customers from across the store, like this one YouTuber, who just had to go find the voice they heard. Her song of choice: Little Big Town’s “Better Man.”

With heartache in the past and her mom healed and ready to move forward, she got up the courage to audition for one of TV’s top talent competitions. She and her whole family hopped in a van a headed to her big chance. “They are so, so supportive,” Linkowski said about her brothers and sisters. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.” With ears against the door, they listened to her audition and her results.

“You just had magic in your voice,” said country singer and judge, Luke Bryan. Judges agreed that there was something special inside Linkwoski. “The last time I heard a voice like this, raw, that absolutely blew me away. A little girl walked up on stage, appeared to be as shy as she possibly could, opened up her mouth and the curtains started shaking… It was Celine Dion,” says co judge and legendary singer, Lionel Richie.

“Be careful, you’re gonna go high in this thing,” was the final judge remark just before Linkowksi walked up to receive her golden ticket.
