Is The Weeknd’s newest album, “My Dear Melancholy” about his relationship (and break-up) with Selena Gomez?

While a confirmation hasn’t come straight from the mouth of the artist himself, fans have gone wild with this theory with examining lyrics. Early Friday morning after a small tease on his Instagram page, The Weeknd dropped the entire album. There are songs on the album that discuss love and love lost with lyrics that seem strangely descriptive of Gomez.
Gomez and the R&B singer dated for 10 months. They broke up back in October of 2017. That’s when we started seeing ‘Jelena’ hanging out again. Rumor has is Gomez broke-up with The Weeknd to get back together with Justin Bieber. Since then, ‘Jelena’ have taken a break and Bieber has been seen hanging out with a model. Knowing this while examining the lyrics in some of the songs on, “My Dear Melancholy” it sure seems like Gomez was yet again the muse for some great music. It’s no secret that Gomez inspired the lyrics in some of Biebers last album, “Purpose.” She’s like the anti-Swift. Instead of getting broken-up with and writing an album, she breaks-up with the guys and then they write the album. Quite the coincidence given the tight friendship between Gomez and Swift.
“Call Out My Name” has some of the most obvious Gomez drops. One lyrics reads, “We found each other/I helped you out of a broken place/You gave me comfort/But falling for you was my mistake.”
I’d like to thank Selena Gomez for The Weeknd’s album

Ouuccchhhh! Fans agree across the table that this is about Gomez. If that didn’t cement it for you, this next lyric likely will. “I almost cut a piece of myself for your life/Guess I was just another pitstop/Til’ you made up your mind.”
We know Gomez has been battling Lupus for a couple years now. In September she revealed that long time friend Francia Raisa donated a kidney to her. “Call Out My Name” should have been called, “Calling Out Selena.”

Another song featuring trails of Gomez is, “Hurt You.” The lyrics reads, “When you’re with him, you close your eyes and think of me/Just call me up again/I’ll make you weak.”
With songs peppering flakes of their relationship you have to wonder if the lyrics in “Privilege,” are also about Gomez?
“Enjoy your privileged life
‘Cause I’m not gonna hold you through the night
We said our last goodbyes
So, let’s just try to end it with a smile”
Or the lyrics in “Wasted Times.” The 28 year-old singer says, “And now I’m askin’, who do you belong to now?/Who you give that love to now?”
He may never confirm or deny whether this album was inspired by his lost love, but fans sure hope these suspicions are true.
