The construction of a 1100 megawatt power plant in St. Clair County has received the nod of approval from state regulators. On Friday, the Michigan Public Service Commission officially granted the necessary permits to DTE Energy for a new natural gas power plant in East China Township. The facility will be located adjacent to the existing Belle River Power plant. DTE says the new plant will have the generating capacity to produce electricity to 850,000 homes and businesses. It will replace the coal fired St. Clair Power plant scheduled to go off line in the next five years.
