Governor calls for Soo Locks upgrade

Governor Rick Snyder and Michigan legislative leadership pledge up to $50 million in funding for Soo Locks upgrades. The announcement coming at the Mackinac Policy Conference yesterday. Snyder says the nation’s entire economy depends on the daily operation of the Soo Locks and it would be difficult to deliver the American iron ore that domestic steel manufacturers depend on to run their mill without the locks. Snyder says the manufacturing industry would not have access to the high quality domestic steel it needs to make everything from auto parts to office furniture.
