Law enforcement offers fireworks warnings

The Fourth of July isn’t until Wednesday, but you’ve undoubtedly been hearing fireworks already. Michigan’s law says people can only shoot off fireworks, bottle rockets, roman candles and other similar items on the day of, day prior and day after July fourth. That means this year, you can shoot off fireworks legally Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The law does say no fireworks should go off between midnight and 8 a.m. And people under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol can not use fireworks. Michigan State Police first Lieutenant Michael Shaw reminds you to never light fireworks too close to a house and always keep a bucket of water or hose nearby when doing so. Police admit it is tough to catch those blasting off fireworks illegally because it only takes a few minutes to shoot them off and by the time officers arrive the show is over.
