A historic building in Downtown Port Huron officially has a new owner. As of yesterday, Developer Jeff Katofsky closed on the Harrington Inn property in downtown Port Huron. Speaking to WPHM this morning, real estate agent Korissa Wilkins says the deal is one of the largest real estate transactions in Port Huron in recent memory. Earlier this week, Port Huron City Council established an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation Act District for the 1000 block of Military Street. Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp says it paves the way for tax incentives for historic building. The O.P.R.A district allows any additional taxes that may come from improving the building to be deferred for up to twelve years. Built in 1896 as the Harrington Hotel, the building is listed on the national register of historic places and was most recently used as an assisted living home. Katofsky says he will remodel the building back into a luxury hotel.
