It’s time Blake Shelton steps down as People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ as Idris Elba steps into the spotlight!
“I feel like sexy ends when I’m not ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ anymore,” Shelton said to Ellen Degeneres on her show this week.
Jimmy Fallon announced on NBC’s, The Tonight Show, that 2018’s honoree for the famous category is none other than Idris Elba. Every mom’s crush.
Elba, who was in London, appeared on the show for a moment via Skype connect. He was definitely feeling the love as he could not stop smiling. Elba is the 33rd man to receive the title.
“My mum is going to be very proud,” said Luther actor. He shared a smolder, a quick flex and a smile on camera before signing off.
A couple years ago the editorial director, Jess Cagle told NBC 4 in New York about the selection process. Cagle said, “People really think of ‘sexy’ beyond physical appearance—although that certainly helps.” It’s always a conversation that sparks fun debate among the staff. “They like the idea of a guy who would be a good husband and father. We always feel out the readers to see what they want, and then we just argue about it!”
He later posted about his win on Instagram and said, “I’m honoured & thankful. But what’s even more important is your vote in the midterm elections. Your vote can make a difference!”
Mel Gibson was the first celebrity recognized as “Sexiest Man Alive” back in 1985. Other honorees include; Hugh Jackamn (2008,) Ryan Reynolds (2010,) Bradley Cooper (2011,) and Dwyane Johnson (2016.)
