First it was a state of emergency and now Governor Whitmer has declared a state of disaster in Michigan. She says the move will allow her administration to respond more effectively to the crisis. The governor says people should still stay home and keep their distance from others. Whitmer also sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and House Speaker Lee Chatfield requesting a concurrent resolution extending the emergency by 70 days. Individual emergency orders will still expire at the time stated in each order, unless otherwise continued. The “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order is currently set to expire April 13th.
