Barricaded Port Huron man facing arson charges

A man who locked himself inside his apartment and threatened to set fire to the building will be facing arson charges. Shortly after 7pm Monday, Port Huron Police responded to a call of a barricaded man threatening murder and suicide at an apartment in the 1600 block of 6th Street. Police say the suspect stated that he was armed with knives and a handgun and indicated that he had harmed himself. The barricaded man also threatened to set the apartment house on fire. Members of the PHPD’s crisis negotiation unit were able to talk the suspect out of the home without incident. The apartment was searched where fire damage was found but a handgun was not recovered. The suspect was taken to an area hospital and is currently lodged in the St. Clair County Jail facing arson charges.
